Interior designing is a great job because I am picture smart. Interior designing is basically designing a room, but you can’t do that without visualizing. My greatest learning type is visual. You can’t just think about it and start doing, you really have to visualize it so the customer gets the design that they are looking for. Interior designing also incorporates communicating with others and designing known as two of my strongest skills. Creativity is also very significant for this occupation and probably my most recognized personality trait

Experiences: What related experiences do you have to prepare yourself for this career? (Refer to Unit B: External Influences. For example, you want to be a Youth Worker and you have experience babysitting.)
IBT (International Business and Technology) – IBT has given me some experience because, when becoming an interior designer, you need to be able to work with technology very well. I have learned how to work with different programs on devices and even help others use technology. Interior designing is all about business, meaning most things are technical based.
Business – Once again, business is a huge part of interior design. You need to be able to create websites, cards, posters in order to run a professional business. I have taken a business course where I have learned how to do all those things. The business that I chose to do was interior design. After a lot of research and thinking I understood what an interior designer really is and how you manage to run the business.
Action Plan: What specific things will you do to prepare for this career? Will you take co-op? Will you volunteer to gain some experience? What courses should you take in high school? What will you do after high school? How will you pay for your education?
Technological design – For grade 11 I have decided to take technological design. Technological design will really help me gain more experience. I will be able to really understand the inside of interior design.
Functions and accounting – Both functions and accounting will help me prepare for this occupation. Interior design has a lot to do with numbers. For grade 11 I have taken both courses in order for me too succeed in the path that I’m heading.
University – After high school my plan is to go to a university with a really good interior design program. I have done my research, and the best university to attend for this program is definitely Ryerson University. I have talked to my parents about money and they have decided that they will pay for my programs and everything until I get a job.
Barriers: What potential barriers could you face in achieving your career goals? (For example, getting high enough marks in math.) What strategies will you use to deal with these challenges? (For example, get a math tutor.)
Interior design program requires mostly math. If I am unable to receive high marks in math, I will definitely get a math tutor or attend Kumon. Both will help me gain more knowledge and understanding. Plus, if I can’t understand grade 12 math and I am unable to get the grade that has been asked, I can choose another subject. The options are Visual Arts, Economics: Analyzing Current Economic Issues, Canadian & World Issues: A Geographical Analysis, Canada: History, Identity and Culture, Physics, Communications Technology -or- Technological Design. I can choose any of these courses in order to attend the program in Ryerson University.
Conclusion: Explain why this career is suitable for you. (Refer to Unit 1: Personal Profile.) Explain what achievements, interests, skills, intelligences, personality and learning type you are that relates to this career.
